ENROLLMENT & ELIGIBILITY

ENROLLMENT & ELIGIBILITY

WHO CAN ATTEND?

Any K-12 student residing anywhere in Oregon may attend.  Just contact us and we can get the ball rolling!

IS IT REALLY FREE?

Yes, this is a publicly funded school.  All curriculum, teaching and support is provided free of charge.  We teach your student so you can focus on being the parent!

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED?

You will need proof of residency (ex: utility bill with parent/guardian name and physical address, birth certificate (we do not keep a copy of this, we just need to see it and then it will be purged), immunization records.

NOTE: If you are already attending school somewhere, everything other than proof of residency will be contained in the records request we complete on your behalf once you register with us! Contact us today via phone or the website so we can walk you through the easy registration process or answer any question

CAN I ENROLL MID-YEAR?

Yes!

DO I NEED TO NOTIFY MY CURRENT SCHOOL?

The State asks that you send an “Intent to Enroll” to your home-district school.  We have provided a template and the instructions for this here. https://www.edflexoregon.org/Enrollment/Letter-of-Intent-Instructions/index.html
It is very easy and can be done over email.  We will handle the required records requests once you register with us.

WHAT IF I’VE ALREADY ENROLLED IN ANOTHER SCHOOL OR SUBMITTED AN “INTENT TO ENROLL” SOMEWHERE ELSE? It’s never too late to enroll with us … just let us know and we will assist you with registration and Intent to Enroll.

ACADEMIC PLANNING, SUCCESS AND ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

ACADEMIC PLANNING, SUCCESS AND ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN ACADEMIC PLANNING?

Once enrolled in EdFlexOregon, you will meet with a School Advisor to use previous grades, transcripts, individual support needs, resources, and interests to create an Education Plan (EP) together. This EP will serve as the foundation for future academic and certification planning, determining the Tier of Support necessary, and incorporating your area of interest or exploration to help your School Advisor guide you to success.

HOW DOES ATTENDANCE WORK?

To ensure the highest academic standards and comply with Oregon law, the state has strict attendance requirements for all schools, including brick and mortar and virtual.  Although students have flexibility within their day to decide when they do school work, they must attend every school day at the minimum hours assigned through the Education Plan unless acceptable arrangements have been made with the school ahead of time. The state requires students meet and schools track the following attendance requirements in order to remain in good attendance standing, not be considered truant, and provide the most support for students success:

#1 - Two-Way Interaction with Certified Teacher Twice a Week with Student:
Can be through zoom, call, or personalized email/chat exchange regarding academic progress, problem-solving, attendance, academic support, etc.

#2 - Face-to-Face Meeting with Certified Teacher Six Times a Year with Parent and Student:
Can be in person or through zoom to complete a well-being check, make sure the Learning Coach (parent) has what they need, a progress review for grades and engagement, goal setting and Education Plan review, and Tier placement review.
#3 - Instructional Time Tracking
Although in most tiers you can decide when you complete your work each day, the state requires you log in each school day and show active engagement usually defined as working up to one hour for each class and making progress in all courses.  In addition to the 2 Two-Way Interactions required weekly between student and teacher, this is how daily attendance will be measured.  Just like in brick and mortar, parents are required to let the school know if their student is unable to complete work on any given school day and it is subject to the same attendance rules as brick and mortar.  The exchange can happen easily through ParentSquare.
PLAYING SPORTS

PLAYING SPORTS

CAN MY STUDENT PLAY SPORTS AT THEIR LOCAL SCHOOL?

Yes!  EdFlexOregon has an Associate Membership with Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA).  EdFlexOregon students are eligible to participate in any OSAA sanctioned sport or activity in their home district while still earning their required Oregon diploma credits virtually through EdFlexOregon.  Best of both worlds!
